When the Merwin Conservancy approached Partner & Partners to collaborate on a reimagined brand and website, we knew we had an incredible opportunity to translate a physical site to those visiting via browser.

The resulting experience grew from the notion of an amble along the forest’s hand-cleared paths: not-quite-linear but never without guidance. The evolved identity reinterprets the postcards and poem drafts found stacked in William’s office, and the website peppers the Conservancy’s on-going programming with archival photography and poetry. Produced in close collaboration with the Merwin team, the new look and experience reflects a grounding notion of the Conservancy: place, poetry, practice.
Using video to establish a sense of place, the homepage eschews tradition and instead greets visitors with an immersive multimedia experience.

In addition to the place-based focus of the new Merwin Conservancy website, the site also serves as an archive of W.S. Merwin’s poetry. The index is grounded by a short and serene clip of the palms swaying beneath the Merwin’s dojo.

↑ A custom audio player allows for users to listen to readings of W.S. Merwin’s poetry as they make their way across the site.
